I've been using Android phones and tablets for over 5 years. Motorola x2 (nexus 6 now), HTC, Nook, Toshiba, and I got a Samsung top of the line tablet for Christmas. Same Google accounts this whole time.

I'm adept at the "swype" texting on all of them... except the Samsung. It is garbage, somehow it gets barely half of the words right. Even more frustrating, when I type letter by letter, it changes the word I typed out for another recommended word. Or someone's email address.

What I don't understand is how they've screwed with the OS so badly to make standard functions unusable. If I didn't have 5 other Android devices is think it was me, but this is the only one that makes me want to throw it into the wall.

There's a reason my wife and I will no longer be buying any Samsung electronics... period. Samsung built an electronic empire, and are now killing the golden goose.

They have been putting together solid hardware for years... but they REFUSE to just leave the damn OS alone. Their software is absolute CRAP. They release a billion new devices a year, so software support for even brand spanking new devices is virtually non-existent.

We owned 2X Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phones, which were great, mainly because they were stock Android and were updated by Google, but once they started going bad, they went downhill fast.

This behavior isn't just limited to phones.

My main tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (a bloody $600 android tablet) that had a number of features that were broken out of the box, and they delayed releasing updates to fix them until after the warranty had expired. I've now had the tablet for ~2.5 years, and only just recently was I able to fix the myriad of issues... by finally hacking it and installing Cyanogenmod on it. Unfortunately, the development community is practically dead already, so although the hardware should still be decent enough, I'm effectively left with just dealing with it until I can justify the purchase of a new tablet.

We have a 55" Samsung Smart TV that we bought in December 2014. Samsung recently (last month) released an update to it that COMPLETELY BROKE THE TV (note... the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty had run out). Thankfully we found our receipt showing that we had purchased the Geeksquad protection plan. After spending OVER 3 HOURS ON THE PHONE with Bestbuy, they finally decided they were going to send some technicians out... 3 days later. Turns out that Samsung has screwed up the HDMI-CEC functions, and if they were turned off prior to the update, it put the TV into an endless power loop. This happened to EVERY TV where their owners had previously turned off the CEC functions on the TV. Fixing it required a special technicians remote to get into a hidden repair menu. Ridiculous.

To top it all off, after purchasing the TV, our AV receiver finally started to go bad after 8 years. I went shopping around to find a new receiver, and wanted to test out the "Audio Return Channel" capabilities of the Samsung Smart TVs to determine whether I'd be able to get rid of the Optical Audio cable that was passing audio from the Smart TV feature back to my old receiver by upgrading to a new receiver with that capability. Turns out that, even though it is an advertised feature on Samsung TVs, it was well known that this particular feature is just flat out broken on Samsung hardware. I asked if they were "****ing ****ting me" and the Best Buy guys said NOPE.

Never again, will we be buying a Samsung device. I now tell everyone to never buy another Samsung device. You should strongly consider moving to a different manufacturer.

Yeah, I dont understand either. They make great phones, but their UI (Touchwiz) that they layer over Android is just the pits. I know they want to milk your information for all its worth but come on... just give me stock android.

I just use Google Nexus phones. They work a treat. Every time.

Actually no. Motorola was sold by Google over a year ago.

They are now owned by Lenovo.

I agree. It is horrible. Definitely the worst I've ever seen too.

Just got the HTC 10 and I haven't had any of the problems I had with my S5.

And in reference to your Motorola made Nexus 6, I've always found my Motorola phones to be great. My Maxx HD is still my favorite phone.

And that really sucks. Motorola used to be one of my favorite brands.

And there's another story at the Washington Post from this year as well.

The Chinese have been putting backdoors in their PCs and servers for years... smartphones next, yes? ;)

The samsung smart hub TV's suk... We had two...

The software kept erasing YouTube from the menu. Thats about the ONLY reason I would want a smart TV... Lots of others complained on the Net, yada, yada... Nothing became of it...

Finally got an LG, and a SHARP (both 4K).

The SHARP tv is awesome. Best picture I have ever seen, with wonderful software and easy to use remote. 1/2 the cost of the Samsung.

Samsungs are getting very expensive... They are the new Sony... you know what happened to them...

I like the Google swipe keyboard that came on my Nexus 5. I've tried SwiftKey and Swype and didn't like either...

My Nexus 5 is made by LG and I've had it for 3 years and is fantastic. LG also makes great TVs.
